Sip is a money-saving coffee subscription for your favourite cafes, bakeries and delis.

Our coffee obsession has a new accomplice. Launched by a pair of cafe-loving ladies, Jocelyn Tan and Hasyna Neo, Sip is a monthly coffee subscription for your favourite cafes, bakeries and delis.

Subscriptions are priced at $27 for 6 cups, $42 for 10 cups or $78 for 20 cups per month. Those who want to give the service a try, or have busted their “monthly allowance” can go for the single cup deal at $4.80. Every subscription includes discounts for food and other vendors such as HipVan and Naiise. While the former can be redeemed using the website, the latter requires the use of a voucher code sent via email weekly.

Thrive Kitchen

Thrive Kitchen

Iced cold drip at Thrive Kitchen

Nestled in an unlikely corner of Clementi is Thrive Kitchen. The inviting cafe is home to an organic and wholesome menu, ranging from hearty big breakfast platter Crack of Dawn ($17.90) to Gluten Free Coconut Cake ($6.90). Vegans will also find themselves craving for their Tomato ‘Bolognaise’ ($14.90), featuring a ‘meat’ patty made from a savoury mix of lentils, sweet potatoes and almonds.

Their playful yet delectable take on healthy eating aside, it is their custom blend of coffee beans that has us clamouring for more. Sourced from local specialty coffee roasters 2Degrees North Coffee Co. (same folks behind The Populus Food and Coffee Co.), each cuppa is heavy-bodied with a nice nutty overtone. Those averse to the acidity of their blends will enjoy the iced cold drip which brings out a distinctive floral flavour.

Knots Cafe and Living

Blue Swimmer Crab Risotto ($24.90) at Knots Cafe and Living

Fans of Kinfolk will find themselves completely at home at Knots Cafe and Living. Stepping in, you will instantly feel like you’ve just exited the harsh concrete jungle of Singapore. What started out as a quaint florist and furniture shop has flourished into a cosy cafe, dressed from head to toe in dark oak and vibrant greens. A picture perfect moment no matter where you look.

With a 10% discount off their food menu, it would be a crime not to give their quadruple-layered chocolate cake a try. Scrambled Eggs in Croissant ($8.50) and Coriander Prawn Pasta ($17.90) are all-time favourites, particularly on a Saturday afternoon.

Crackerjack

Crackerjack

If bar-hopping is your thing, you would be familiar with Crackerjack. It is hard to say no to a cocktail from the two Diageo World Class Winners behind the bar, yet award-winning barista Bronwen Serna may give you a whole new reason to have a cup of joe any time of the day.

While they do get their coffee from 2Degrees North Coffee Co., it is a blend unique to Crackerjack—robust and nutty, with strong tones of dark chocolate. You can have it black or white, iced or hot, or even in a cocktail.

They have a winning formula and are not afraid to use it. From the people who brought you Lola’s Cafe comes On The Table.

Their house blend of El Salvador, Ethiopia Dara and Blue Batak Sumatra is best savoured in a long black, though the lattes and mochas are popular picks for pairing with the wide selection of cakes. Savouries such as the Ultimate Croissant ($13), stuffed with fluffy scrambled eggs, cheddar and honey baked ham, or the Pulled Duck Burger with Mango Salsa ($18) are must-haves.

The Bakery by Woodlands Sourdough

The Bakery by Woodlands Sourdough

The Bakery by Woodlands Sourdough

The ultimate draw of The Bakery by Woodlands Sourdough is, well, the sourdough. The brainchild of a power couple who started baking as a hobby, the bakery has been serving up sourdough loaves slathered in everything from cream cheese to Vegemite. Favourites include the hot-pressed tapenade and fresh mozzarella sandwich ($9) or the cream cheese and berry compote.

No matter what you pick, savoury or sweet, they all go great with their hand brews. The beans are sourced from a small local roastery, Cata Coffee, with batches differing in flavour. No need to get stumped as the lovely staff are always ready to offer their recommendations.
