Café Brio’s last buffet of the year (from $106++, 6-10pm) features herb-rubbed roast whole turkey with chestnut filling, cranberry jam and gilbert jus, as well as honey glazed Gammon ham, logcake and panettone. Then move on to the smoked green tea marlin and snow fish platter with wasabi mayo; grilled Alaskan king crab, baked hotate mentaiyaki, and wagyu mini steak. A colonial respite that’s on the fringe of Orchard Road. Help yourself to hearty and familiar Peranakan fare at the a la carte buffet ($58.80++, 6-10.30pm). Start with kueh pie tee, bok nee (black fungus and chicken) salad, before moving onto mains like babi pongteh, nam yue (preserved beancurd) pork chop, wagyu beef cheek rendang, ulam (herb) rice and finally chendol panna cotta.

Head to Mustafa Centre’s rooftop hangout for an Indian buffet ($35++, 8-11pm) with prizes for the best couple and best dancers (couples). Tuck into the heady and hearty flavours of multani paneer tikka (a cottage cheese dish flavoured with coriander and other spices), gosht palak (mutton with spinach), baghara baingan (eggplant curry) and a variety of salads. Fill up on South Indian chicken biryani and an assortment of naans, then finish off 2014 with chamcham (a traditional Bengali sweet flavoured with saffron, cream, and garnished with coconut flakes).

If you’re chummy with a member of the Singapore Swimming Club, you can attend their Mid-Summer Masquerade Ball (members $110, guests $128; 6.30pm-2am). It includes a variety show, stage games, music and comedians; the sit-down dinner (includes steamed red grouper with Yunnan ham) is followed by a buffet spread (includes roasted honey baby ribs, leg of lamb with mint sauce) to last partygoers till the stroke of midnight and beyond.
