With BAKE from Japan, Tai Cheong Bakery from Hong Kong and other cool overseas eats to check out, Dessert Story adds to the list of delicious reasons why you should dine out in sunny Singapore.

What is the first thing that comes to mind when one thinks of Dessert Story? Asian desserts. Other than old-school Chinese delicacies such as sesame paste ($3.30), savoury offerings like steamed cakes and rice rolls (from $3.20) are not to be missed. They even have main courses now! However, BiTES visited for a more lipsmackingly cool reason, so read on.

From 3 April till end May, Dessert Story brings the famous peanut candy ice cream roll to us! Usually found in Taiwan’s night markets, this dessert resembles fresh spring rolls (sometimes referred to as popiah) wrapped with peanut brittle, coriander and your preferred choice of ice cream—yam, coconut ($3.50) or both ($3.90).

If you’re lucky, you may catch a glimpse of the massive peanut candy block and how the same traditional wooden tool (imported from Taiwan) is used to gather peanut shavings, recreating its authentic taste.

However, while the ice cream used in Taiwan leans towards the icy texture of sherbet, we are in for a creamier treat with robust flavours. The combination of soft, crunchy and cold is something we could really get addicted to.

Not enough to beat the heat? Dessert Story’s got you covered with new additions to their snow ice series. Have the best of both worlds with the new duo ice ($5.90)—mango and coconut or strawberry yoghurt.
