Say hello to Japan’s laziest egg.

When it comes to lazing around, no one does it better than Gudetama. Adding on to the craze that already hit Hong Kong and Japan, this cute little egg is getting his very own café in Singapore.  Located at Suntec City Mall, this “food playground” character  café comes complete with animated walls, waffle ceilings, and egg shaped booths, rounding off the experience with photo ops with Gudetama figurines!

Look forward to an exciting menu with food that looks too cute to be eaten. Start your meal with the comforting Gudetama Lobster Onsen ($16) that’s served in a freshly baked bread bowl. The umami soup is thicken as you mix in the accompanying poached egg. There’s also a good serving of lobster meat, making this starter worth your money.

Brunch lovers will enjoy the “I’m Cold” smoked salmon eggs Benedict ($26.90) featuring two perfect poached eggs and smoked salmon laid atop mashed avocado, on fluffy brioche toast drizzled with yuzu hollandaise sauce. Completing the dish is a side of fresh rocket salad, grilled mushrooms and crisp tater tots.

We recommend giving the “Shiok” pork ribs ($38.50) a miss though. Although the barbecue sauce was moreish and fingerlicking good, there was hardly any meat on the bone and is a tad pricey as compared to the rest of the items on the menu.

The  highlight of the day was the adorable desserts. Designed to look like savoury food, the sweet treats were created and styled by local bento artist @LittleMissBento. Good to share with four friends is the  Shoyu Ramen ($21.50),  a heavy dessert made with chocolate and feuilletine cake topped with layers of chestnut puree and earl grey jelly, and served with a side of pannacotta (that looks like tofu) and sweetened rose tea, which comes in a soya pitcher.

All in all, the cafe is definitely worth a visit, even if you’re not a Gudetama fan. The portions are big and the food is pretty delicious, which is to be expected as the cafe is a joint partnership between the people behind Joe & Dough as well as The Soup Spoon.
