An Italian makeover and cocktails with theatre.

Finally–it’s an Italian makeover at District 10‘s UE Square outlet! Exec chef and co-owner Luca Pezzera has added on 15 dishes to the already bursting menu, which will have fans of the defunct Bonta rejoicing. Start off right with tomato-rich appetisers of classic baked eggplant alla Parmigiana ($16) and slow braised tripe ($16)–the meat is well prepared so you’ll enjoy its addictive texture together with chilli and Parmesan. The carbonara spaghetti and black ink taglioni (each $24) are the real stars; generously sized with ingredients you can see, and special twists such as the black truffle scented carbonara. #01-15/16/17 UE Square, 81 Clemeanceau Avenue. The hippest cocktail lounge in town sits glamorously on the mezzanine level of The Black Swan. Enter The Powder Room, always dolled up and daring, theatrics at the ready in its parties and libations. The bar’s revamped cocktail menu features creative concoctions like Bubble Yum ($21), a house-infused bubblegum vodka base complete with helium balloon.
Paying homage to the venue’s Jazz Age vibe, the B. B. King ($19) is redolent with notes of banana-scented whisky with barbecue bitters with a maple syrup-filled smoking gun for dramatic effect. 19 Cecil Street. Tel: 8181 3305
