Everyone is welcome at the industrial-chic Food Glossary. It’s brought to you by the folks at ABR Holdings Limited and Good Morning Nanyang Café, so expect solid kaya toast (try the ciabatta version, $2.60), “sock” tea and coffee, as well as Asian (nasi Singapura with curry chicken, $4.80) and Western fare. Order via the easy-to-navigate app or online, or via the tablets by the counter. What we love most is its mission, supported by South West Community Development Council: to actively provide training, social and employment opportunities to residents in the community, especially back-to-work women and mature workers.

It’s a stroll through modern-meets-olden Japan at Shokutsu Ten Japanese Food Street, Jurong Point. The Osaka stretch features the famous Dotonbori icons: Glico man, huge crab (Kani Doraku), and a giant pufferfish lantern (Zubora-ya). What’s new after the $7 million makeover is the Tokyo stretch, styled after old Edo: elegant with paper parasols, kabuki masks and
classic paintings. Exclusive here are Shabu Tontei for premium kurobuta and wagyu hotpots (sharing sets from $58); the WAttention Plaza (pop-ups include F&B and traditional handicrafts); and Kabe no Ana‘s café concept for mentaiko carbonara spaghetti ($13.90) and eggs
benny ($15.90).
