Forget Breakfast at Tiffany’s, have brunch at Jones the Grocer’s new Great World Outlet instead.
Dempsey’s favourite Australian brunch spot has opened a second Singaporean outlet in Great World City. The specialty food emporium-cum-café is the brand’s latest international outlet, and boasts a cozy and modern interior. Upon entering, we were greeted by their extensive retail offerings, whose shelves span from floor-to-ceiling. The dim lighting gave the entire café a relaxed vibe, while their swanky sports bar and lounge added a touch of class. There’s also an al fresco dining area.
Apart from the usual breakfast suspects like French toast and eggs benedict, The Jones café menu features more interesting eats like avocado & pesto scrambled eggs, huevos rancheros and coconut flour pancakes. They also serve gourmet sandwiches, as well as artisanal breads and pastries that are baked daily in-house.
However we’re here to talk about brunch. Treat your tastebuds with some freekeh & roasted vegetable salad, before feasting on a gamut of carnivorous treats like sticky pork ribs and Jones’s award-winning gourmet Wagyu burger.
We loved the tender Wagyu beef patty for its juicy pink center. Topped with lettuce, fresh tomato slices and a light mayonnaise, and sandwiched between warm, toasted buns, this is easily our favourite dish on the menu. Another hot favourite is their grilled lamb kofka. Tender and spiced without being too gamey, the mutton is a tasty option for a small meat treat.
Non-meat eaters can opt for an equally luxurious truffle mushroom risotto. We enjoyed its truffle-infused al dente Arborio rice, and the generous amounts of fresh mushrooms in each spoonful.
It’s easy to fill up on their savouries, but we advise you to leave some space for dessert. With sweet treats like a warm sticky date pudding and the sinful Death By Chocolate, you’ll truly be missing out if you don’t give them a try. Diners with a penchant for lighter desserts will probably enjoy a refreshing coconut with mango coulis, or an apple crumble.
We washed it all down a mojito straight from Jones’s bar. Citrusy and refreshing with sprigs of mint, it made for a good end to the meal. Vinophiles will be glad to know that other than cocktails, you can also get artisanal spirits, cold brews on tap, as well a range of international wines and champagnes right here as well.
Before you leave, stop by Jones’s retail space to check out their outstanding offerings, with a curated range of international specialty products such as Sicilian green olives, tartufo salsa, and organic coconut chips ready for take-away. With a sizeable range of artisan cheeses and charcuterie boards, you know where to go to do some last minute shopping for your weekend soirée.
